website success or just for fun!
By Andrew Fuller
i have been trying my hand at websites now for about two years, thereabouts, it was my intention to make some extra pocket money and as it happens it really is just pocket money !! as i may have said somewhere i do tend to leave things a little unfinished but the basics are always there, just the nitty gritty of actually finishing and calling it complete.. my point being, well more of a question really, does this contribute towards not really getting any real visitors who browse and buy or maybe pass the site on to friends etc'. i know about finding the right niche and all that, but itself is a task and a half, maybe that's all that is wrong, just not got the right niche yet! keywords and content, content is king as they say. add more content, but just how much content can you add? how much do you need to add? the answer i suppose is as much as possible! but can you go too far and do what i am doing now, just babbling on and on and on.! i know there are people out there who have made it big with websites etc' but was this just luck or intention? what do you think? how do you hit the right spot, how do you make it work right for you? why am i asking these questions? because i think i have become a little dis-illusioned (if that's the right word) with making the money part of it, that was my initial aim and goal, deep down i know it still is, as i think it would be with anyone. I have though i think and hope, (although i am writing about it! makes you think doesn't it as it did me just then)! but i have (thought i had) put the money thinking to one side and more enjoy the messing around with the websites, the learning how to do this and how to present things on your site or sites. I have just read back that last paragraph and got myself and now i've got myself confused! so iknow you must be! BUT i do enjoy the design or making or whatever you want to call it of websites and the learning, but i do want to make them work for me at the same time, but i suppose i have learned also along the way these last two years, the learning is the fun bit, the making the odd penny or pound along the way is an added bonus which shows that someone does look at your site on the very odd occasion. This has really just turned into a babble about nothing really and i am sorry for that, i probably just wanted to get something out my system! If you have read and learned a bit about anything, that surely is a good thing! |

Andrew, The biggest mistake people make in life is not making a living at doing what they most enjoy. - Malcolm S. Forbes (1919-1990) I belive that a website can only be successful if it is your Passion. Read this page when you get a chance. http://www.dog-first-aid-101.com/passion.html
When we climb a 20 foot ladder, Andrew, we realize that we must take it one step at a time. With internet marketing, we are surrounded by so much information, that we get going in too many directions at the same time. Pick one step, learn it, use it then move on to the next step. Thank you for sharing Best wishes. Frederick
Listen to Frederick on this... It's good advice.
I agree with Fredrick. If it were me, I would develop a website or two. Then spend time, months and months promoting it. If it is on a topic you love, it won't be so tedious. But persistence is what it takes. Writing article after article, participating in social networking sites, blogging, and so forth, every day for a sustained period of time. You can continue to tweak your site, add new content, add new features and so forth.
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
Hi and thanks for your comment, i do agree with what everyone says, although i do want to succeed i feel it has become less important than when i started out. if i got a sudden infux of sales then i guess the spark would be re-ignited and i would make a more concious effort! as for the social networking and blogging etc' - it's not a thing i have ever done, i don't know why, just never really got into that side of the net.
I read a statistic that only 2.8% of the people who start out making money from home on the Internet make a working living. Still I suppose one can still strive to be part of the elite 2.8
